I started training in aikido a few years ago, though I had to give it up for a quite a while, finishing my PhD. I've strated again recently and still enjoy it and get a lot out of it. While I've dabbled in other martial arts (jiu-jitsu, JKD), I still find aikido brings me back to the basics. I continue to learn about my own body mechanics, the relation of my body to others and about how to take it easy. Among other things, it's a good source of meditation for someone like me who has a Tigger-like spring in his tail.
